C.3. Threat reduction and non-natural causes of death

Aim: to reduce the direct causes of death for the Cantabrian capercaillie through collision, acting on some farming enclosures and other dangerous infrastructure.

Partners: Government of Cantabria, Fundación Patrimonio Natural de Castilla y León, Asturias, Consorcio Interautonómico para la gestión coordinada del Parque Nacional Picos de Europa and SEO/BirdLife.

Description: an inventory will be created of the fencing, wires and farming enclosures in the capercaillie’s habitat and the possibility of removing disused structures will be discussed as well as substituting them with wooden fencing or marking them to reduce the risk of collision for the subspecies.
